STAYING ALERT WHILE STATIONARY
Purpose:
(This was written for my A/V guys who sit at the board for 6+ hours at a time. Adapt to your circumstance.)
During the course, your attention will likely wander. Statistically, people interrupt themselves from a task every ten minutes. That will happen less as you train.
Practice:
When your attention does wander, allow it to wander to this checklist:
_ Monitor audio quality for defects
_ Look to see if anyone is struggling to hear
_ Check for what equipment broke or was moved when you weren’t watching
_ Listen and be in the conversation with the Course Leader and the participant at the mic
_ Intercept the next interruption to a seamless, flawless, and transparent presentation
_ Make notes of anything to complete after the session
By noticing each of these, and communicating with the Presentation Manager, you can eliminate all distractions without ever leaving your post.
Some bodies need additional calories when sitting in one place concentrating all day. For some, digesting those calories causes drowsiness. Experiment and see what works for you. I get headaches and fogginess if I don’t eat a ton of calories during the course. Josh gets drowsy unless he restricts his eating to the bare minimum at lunch and dinner.
